About Me

Gary Spencer is a photographer whose work spans decades across commercial, editorial, and fine art photography.

He began his career in commercial fashion and advertising, producing work for major national clients including Target Corporation, TIME Magazine, and GE Capital. This early work established a foundation of precision, lighting control, and visual clarity.

His career expanded into the international ballroom dance world, where he became a leading photographic voice documenting the energy and movement of the industry. His book, Championship Ballroom Dancing, remains a defining black-and-white study of dance as form in motion. He also co-founded the International Dance Directory, one of the first global resources of its kind, later evolving into DanceDirectory.com.

His current work marks a shift toward a more distilled and personal direction.

Through Structural Silence, Spencer explores abstract form through architecture—using black and white photography to reveal structure, light, and quiet tension. The work reflects a continued pursuit of clarity, reduction, and visual presence.
